Royal Devon University Heathcare trust website

How we helped the Royal Devon University Healthcare trust reinvent their shop window.

Overview

In late 2018, we were awarded the contract to redesign and develop the website for the Royal Devon University Heathcare trust. The Trust sought a modern replacement for its outdated, decade-old website of over 4,000 pages, aiming for a design that is user-friendly, focused on the visitor’s experience, and effectively showcases the organisation.

We conducted a comprehensive overhaul of the site's information architecture, strategically restructuring the content to enhance accessibility and eliminate dead ends. In designing the site, we opted for minimal imagery, recognising that users prioritise quick access to information. While the careers section offers a more exploratory browsing experience, the overall design remains focused, clean, and streamlined to ensure efficiency and ease of use.

Project details

To achieve the new design, we conducted multiple focus groups and engaged with key stakeholders to ensure they were informed throughout the development process. The redesign prioritised the needs of patients and visitors, featuring them prominently on the homepage while minimising corporate details. We ensured that most pages were accessible within two to three clicks and adopted a clean design with ample white space and accordion menus to prevent information overload.

Conclusion

The completed site is powered by a flexible Umbraco CMS, which we custom-engineered into the backend to enable content management from multiple departments while maintaining design integrity and cohesion. The site was successfully launched in September 2020.
